Ludacris - Chicken and Beer
Review by vanilla coek

For the longest time I have been hearing people say how great Ludacris
is. I had never really listened to him much, but I went out and got his new
release "Chicken and Beer". I found his work on the album to be either hit or
miss.

The album has an explosive opening in the song "Southern Fried Intro".
Luda just goes apeshit, spitting out 100 words a second. Combined with the
sweet beat, the awesome flow makes this one hell of an opener. It got me pumped
for the rest of the album. Unfortunately, this song is the only time Ludacris
spits out fire like this.

There are a handful of good songs to go along with the killer "Southern Fried
Intro" (although that song still blows 'em away). The hit single "Stand Up" is an enjoyable club track. "Hip Hop
Quotables" is full of witty lyricisim and is a fun song. "Teamwork" is a cute
song about freaky sex. "Hard Times" is a very good track where Ludacris
actually attempts to be serious. Good stuff.

Many of the album's songs tend to get repetitive after a few listens. "Blow
It Out" features Luda yelling "BLOW IT OUT YO ASS" every ten seconds.
"Splash Waterfalls" is slightly more enjoyable, although the chick saying
"Fuck Me" after every line gets very annoying. "P-Poppin'" is a pathetic
excuse for a song. It's about poppin' pussy, but it is wack. This is a track
that must be skipped every time.

Luda's interludes/skits on the album are a waste of space. They aren't even the
slightest bit funny. One of them deals with a 62-year-old rapper. Another is a
dumb phone message. The worst of them all, however, is "Black Man's Struggle",
which is nothing more than a man taking a shit. Lame.

For the most part, the album consists of some pretty cool beats. "Teamwork"
uses a cheerful beat, which is kind of funny since the song is about freaky sex.
I really dislike the beat in "We Got", however. Throughout the entire song,
there is someone coughing every couple seconds. It gets annoying. And as much
as I hate "P-Poppin'", I have to admit it that it has a nice beat.

Although the album gets repetitive at times, it's still a decent listen. Some
of the songs are really good (like "Stand Up" and "Hip Hop Quotables"), but
some of them are terrible ("P-Poppin" and "Screwed Up"). Don't go out
of your way to buy it, but if you find it cheap it may be worth a purchase.
